What Can a Financial Counselor Help You With?

Authored By: Tonia Landsfeld on 3/11/2024

Whether you are struggling with your finances or looking for ways to improve your credit score, Financial Counseling may be something to consider. A financial counselor provides a non-judgmental ear to listen to financial concerns. They can help you get to the bottom of your financial behaviors, emotions, and actions. This will allow you to make positive changes, regain control, and get your financial life back on track.

You can work with a certified counselor to create a strategy to achieve your goals such as debt repayment or increased savings. By understanding basic financial principles, you can learn both debt and money management.

Working with a financial counselor to improve your credit score will not only increase your buying power if you’re in the market for a home or auto but will also save you money in the long run by paying less interest on the money you borrow. If you are looking to rent, a higher score will increase your chances of approval since many landlords use credit score to determine eligibility. You may even pay lower auto insurance rates and avoid security deposits on utilities.

While financial counselors can give you tools to build your savings, they are not trained to offer investment advice or wealth management. PFCU has a financial advisor available by appointment to help with those services.
